Stress management: Exercises for Positive Thinking that Reduce your Stress

10 August 2009 7 Comments

If you desire to stay positive in your life, here are positive thinking exercises you can do everyday to get started. When you make these a habit, you will feel it will make great changes in the way you see things and will help you live a happier life.

1. Be thankful. Appreciate the good things in your life and do not forget to say thankpositive thinking 1 300x240 Stress management: Exercises for Positive Thinking that Reduce your Stress you to every little favor given to you. Being grateful radiates a positive energy to the people who receive it and leaves a feeling of lightness in you. One of the simplest positive thinking exercises you can do – say thank you.

2. Practice positive affirmation. One of the most popular positive thinking exercises is positive affirmation. This means you repeat a positive phrase to yourself on a regular basis like “I deserve to be happy” or “I am worthy of love”. Believing that these things are true, and reminding yourself of it can help give you a more positive outlook on life.
Here’s an example of a “success affirmation” you can use on a daily basis:

I am successful in everything I do.
Every venture I get into returns wealth to me.
I am constantly productive.
I always perform to the full potential I have and have respect for my abilities.
My work is always given positive recognition.
I augment my income constantly.
I always have adequate money for everything I require.
I spend my money prudently always.
My work is always rewarded.

3. Take a walk early in the morning or go to the office early so you can spend some time for a walk. Enjoy nature while walking and appreciate little pleasures you see on your way – shades of the trees and the morning breeze – take time to feel them.

4. Meditation. A powerful, simple technique is meditation. Meditation doesn’t have to take the form of static body posture. It can be as simple as sitting in a comfortable chair listening to soothing music. Or performing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing exercises. Meditation is all about letting go of stressful or worrisome thoughts. If you spend just a few minutes per day feeling relaxed and peaceful, you automatically shift your mind into a more positive place. When you feel more relaxed, you naturally think more positively!

5. Choose to be happy. Happiness is a choice. If you choose to be one, you will be.positive thinking 2 300x254 Stress management: Exercises for Positive Thinking that Reduce your Stress Indeed there are trials in this world that you need to overcome, but if you let these things rule your life, you will be dealing with them everyday, as life is a constant battle of problem solving.

6. Forgive yourself. Constantly beating yourself up about things that have gone wrong won’t change them. Tell yourself that you’re forgiven for your mistakes and allow yourself to move on.

7. Only use positive words when talking. If you’re constantly telling yourself “I can’t” you may convince yourself that’s the truth. Replace these negative words with positive ones instead. Tell yourself you will do your best or that you will try your hardest instead.

8. Listen to an inspiring song or read an inspiring quote everyday. You can start up with positive thinking by putting an inspiring quote in your desk everyday or having an inspiring playlist that you can listen and feel everyday while you are driving.

9. Give yourself credit. Often when we feel frustrated or upset we only concentrate on the bad things or the mistakes we’ve made instead of giving ourselves credit for what we do right. Allow yourself to feel confident about the things you have accomplished, even if you’ve messed up in other areas.

10. Practice self-hypnosis. Self-hypnosis brings about a highly conscious state of mind that is willing to follow instructions. This means you’ll be more open to positive suggestions that will allow you to be happier and hopefully healthier in your life.

I truly enjoyed reading this tips. Arriving to work early and just relaxing out in your car or taking a walk does help to make your day more enjoyable. Before i hardly ever gave myself credit for what i accomplished now its a big difference. Great post

Thank you for the reminders in this blog. If we all would remember to (1) be thankful (2) practice positive affirmation (3) take a walk early (4) meditate (5) choose to be happy (6) forgive yourself and (7) only use positive words when talking, everyday we would have a practice that brings us back to our true nature. I might add journaling for folks to go deeper into their thoughts and feelings. Our deeper nature is a consciousness that includes everything learning to hold our disappointments with heartfelt compassion, leads us to a relaxed positive mindset.

Good list, I really have to show agreement to the first listing because I believe that gratefulness and thankfulness go hand-in-hand with positive thinking.

Really very good post. I have realize the power of positive thinking in routing life.

I just ran across a website….ventma.com , not sure if links are allowed here.

Anyway, ventma wants you to post experiences with the ex without complimenting them. Basically trash talk them all you can. Anyone think this is a good way to get over an ex?

It makes me feel better to write the stuff there and vent your frustration out.

Firstly, thank you for the very insightful post.

I find all these techniques to be very beneficial. But here’s what really stood out for me. “Talking a walk in the morning”.

The morning is the best time of the day to clear your mind. How you spend your morning really dictates th flow of your day. A happy morning is a happy day. Might I share a few “morning tips” with you?

    Drink Green Tea

Green tea is the perfect drink to relax you. It’s also rich in antioxidants, and it has much less caffeine than coffee. Instead of your “morning coffee”, why not switch to this healthy alternative.

    Practice Yoga

In the morning, yoga is the best. This deep breathing exercise relaxes your muscles and mind. It will put you in a positive and happy mood, so you’ll have less chance of becoming stressed throughout the day.
