Managing Attendance
Finding hard working and charismatic employees is no easy task, but once you do find these people
how do you ascertain whether or not they are actually good at the job they do?
Many employees start of enthusiastic but then go on that steady decline where they often need help and are too afraid to ask for it. As an employer it is your responsibility to make sure the wellbeing of your employee is paramount. Nobody wants to wake up everyday dreading going into work for fear that their boss isn’t going to be understanding if they’re under a lot of stress.
Stress and anxiety plus sleep deprivation due to worrying about work the next day are all factors in employees taking days off sick. Statistics show that each year 6.5 million sick days are taken by staff due to stress and a staggering 500,000 people are suffering from work related stress and depression in the UK alone.
Therefore, ensuring bosses are equipped with the necessary skills to handle not only their stress levels but those of their employees, is integral if the work life balance is to be just that; balanced.
At Virtual College there are a number of courses designed to combat stress in the workplace. One of these is called Managing Stress. The course ensures that participants are able to recognize stress when it occurs so that they are able to use the techniques they learn to combat stress and anxiety before it actually spirals out of control.
Since studies have shown that stress can occur in all types of work environment and it’s not just specific to one industry, this course is designed for anyone who wishes to eliminate stress from their workplace and should take four and a half hours, but the great thing about this course is that participants can work as slowly or quickly as they like.

Another excellent course for managing stress and attendance in the workplace is Managing Attendance. This course is an e-learning programme designed to be completed with 6 modules. The course effectively helps employers in creating a harmonious working environment so that their employees are less likely to take days off due to stress related illnesses. The course includes modules on the legal aspects of which responsibilities employers have to their employees plus modules on the importance of wellbeing in the working world. Ultimately, if the employer has the skills to recognize when stress and anxiety are taking place within themselves, then they are better equipped at handling situations that come up with their employees.
In addition to this, modules cover the role of Occupational health, Human Resources and Employee Assistance Programmes, all key aspects of ensuring employees want to come to work as opposed to taking days off sick.
