Honey Treats Coughs Better Than Drugs
There may be hope for parents looking for alternatives to drug-laden cough syrup to calm their children’s coughs — and help might be as close as that golden nectar in the kitchen. Honey can soothe throats and calm coughs, according to a new study.
The study, published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, found that children who received a small dose of buckwheat honey before bedtime slept better and coughed less than those who received either a common over-the-counter cough suppressant or nothing at all.
- The researchers enrolled 105 children, between ages 2 and 18, in their randomized,
partially double-blind study. On the first night of the study, the children received no treatment. Parents then answered questions about their children’s sleep and cough, as well as the quality of their own sleep. The second night, the children were given either honey-flavored cough syrup or honey — or nothing at all. Parents then reanswered the questions in the survey. Parents whose children received the honey rated their kids’ sleep and symptoms as better — and their own sleep as improved as well. Read more
How to Boost Your Intuition

Intuition is defined as the power or ability of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference. Intuitive knowledge is considered to be knowledge which cannot be gained either by inference or observation, by reasoning or past experience. As such intuitive knowledge is thought of as independent, original knowledge.
Intuition is helpful, because sometimes it leads you to something that cannot be achieved otherwise. A lot of lives have been saved by intuition alone. Decisions are accomplished easier if you are lucky enough, or determined enough, to use this gift. Develop your intuition now and reap benefits like you have never imagined.
Here are few steps you can take in your life to develop your intuition:
- - Believe in your first impressions: When you see someone for the first time and
think that he is a bit too arrogant for your taste, chances are that impression actually holds true. Most of the time, first impressions are brought by intuition. And remember, you only have one chance to make (or receive) a first impression! Later on, go back and think about what your first impression was and see if it holds true.
- - Never expect: After letting go of the inhibitions and all those things that stop you from thinking and feeling clearly, never expect an answer right away. Never expect that the “hunch” will just fall into your lap immediately. Give it a little time. You’ll be surprised that all of a sudden you have your answer. Read more
Stop Being A Workaholic - Easy Lessons

A workaholic. This is what you have become. The only time you don’t think of work is during the three or four hours a day that you spend sleeping. You devote 16 hours of your day each day to working furiously: making money, reaching goals, working on giving your families the best, planning and mobilizing yourself for success.
Here are a few tips to help you, the workaholic, re-focus and get the best out of life :
- - STRICTLY FAMILY ON WEEKENDS! Resolve to make Saturdays and Sundays
strictly for family time. And stick to this! Mondays until Fridays you make an excuse not to relax and spend time with your family because it’s work time, why not make a similar excuse for Saturdays and Sundays? “I can’t work today because I’m spending time with my family.”
- - WORK TO LIVE! Always keep in mind that you work so you can live and have a comfortable life. Always remember that you don’t live to work. Working is just one of the many useful and fruitful activities you do that enables you to live a good life and give your family (or any of your dependents) their needs. Don’t make work your life.
- - SAY “NO” if you are over-committed or before you get in that position if possible.
- - HAVE A MOTIVATION REFUEL. Physical fatigue is not the only threat to your energy. Emotional fatigue in the form of rejections, disappointments or making mistakes can all dampen your motivation. Having a motivation refuel means having a day, hour or even a few minutes where you go over your goals, listen to motivational tapes, meditate or do whatever will recharge your drive. Read more
Green Christmas: How to Choose an Eco-Friendly Christmas Gift

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, Americans throw away a million extra tons [900,000 metric tons] of garbage each week, including holiday wrapping and packaging.
Many of today’s products are available in environmentally friendly versions. There are staplers that do not use staples, remote controlled toys that do not use batteries, clothes made from natural products and even eco-computers that are made with gentler chemicals and make fewer emissions. It is easy to choose an environmentally friendly gift.
However, the most environmentally friendly gifts are made from creative ideas rather than material packages. Pass on the eco-friendly spirit with these gifts!
- - Give recycled gifts. Look in your closet, your cabinet or storage space.
What is in there that you have not used in the longest time, is gently used and could be of service to a family member or friend? You can also recycle or create decorative wrapping paper and cards using old Holiday cards, decorations and papers that you have around the house.
- - Don’t buy Christmas gifts that are over packaged. Toys are especially bad for this, with cardboard boxes covered by plastic sheets, sealed with tape and fastened with plastic ties. Buy products that have the packaging fit to them, or even better aren’t packaged at all.
- - Give homemade gifts. If you make great holiday cookies, pies, or other treats. Whip up a batch and give them as gifts in reusable decorative container. If you’re an artist, create miniature works to share with family and friends. Read more
